Development of historic waterfront castle into 4-star hotel with 11 apartments in Kastel Stafilic/Kastela Bay
price POA REF: KA800
DescriptionThe Castle is for sale, with all the available projects and documentation. It can also be bought as a company (see below for details).Built in 1508, this waterside Castle called Kastel Stafileo is superbly located in the village which now takes its name (Kastel Stafilic). The location is stunning as the south side of the castle plunges straight into the sea. In the inter-war years and during the communist era, the Kastel was formerly a hotel. It has been unused for around 20 years and in the 1990s the castle was returned to the original owners, who can trace their ancestry back to the family who originally built the castle in the 16th century.
Along the bay, between Split and Trogir, the seven Kastel (collectively known as the Kastela) were built by local noble families as residences and fortifications against the threatened Turkish onslaught. Villages grew up around the castles and today a series of more or less continuous houses, restaurants and cafιs stretch along the bay, known locally as the Riva.
In terms of location, it is very well situated. Split is around 20km away, with the attractions of Diocletians Palace and the ferry ports access to the well-known islands of Brac, Hvar and Vis, as well as destinations further afield such as Korcula and Dubrovnik. Split International airport is just 6km away with a multitude of direct flights to numerous European capitals and other cities. The newly opened (June 05) motorway now connects Split with Zagreb and the rest of Europe very quickly, with Zagreb accessible in just over three hours. This motorway also has an access road to the Kastela. Construction of the Split-Dubrovnik section of the motorway is now underway, which is due for completion by 2010.
