Croatia has undergone a renaissance in the last few years. Firmly putting the trouble of the past behind, it is now on the path to entry into the European Union as soon as possible (2010 is the most likely entry date). Tourist numbers have sharply risen over the last few years but Croatia remains committed to preserving the very thing that makes it so popular, namely its glorious coastline. Stretching from Istria in the north down to Dubrovnik in the south, a myriad of islands, dramatic coastal mountain scenery, azure blue and crystal clear sea combine to create the perfect place for a holiday home. Your place in Dalmatia also makes excellent business sense.

Property prices have been moving steadily up over the last few years as more and more people have recognised both the beauty and the wisdom of buying in Croatia. We believe there is potential for prices to continue rising based on the fact that

  •  Croatia’s foreign policy is geared towards EU entry which is now on course for 2010/11

  •  Prices remain favourable compared to many other destinations

  •  Improvements in the infrastructure with Government and EU funded schemes such as motorway building, airport modernisation and expansion are making it easier and cheaper to arrive.

  •  Dalmatia is attracting large scale private investors too who are knocking down old factories and building resort hotels and marinas in their place.

  •  With an increasing number of low-cost flights to Croatia, including the arrival of budget airlines easyJet, Germanwings, Skyeurope and Flybe, getting here has never been easier.

Much is made of the boom in property prices that has taken place in Croatia and indeed some places have seen spectacular gains. However, our investment background leads us to sound at least a cautionary note. In the headlong rush to buy, it is also too easy to make the mistake of assuming all property in all locations will be a licence to print money. This can not be true and whilst your decision to purchase may be based on the desire to holiday in such a stunning place, it is as well to be aware of the potential gains and pitfalls of your purchase.
